I received a request recently to make a Mr. StampyCat Minecraft quilt for a customer's 12 year old daughter. Not having ever played or even seen Minecraft I was a little hesitant at first. How would I even know what it was supposed to look like? I did some quick research and realized it was a perfect opportunity for me. I had been wanting to make a pixelated quilt for quite some time and this was the perfect chance. A twin bed-sized quilt of Mr. StampyCat. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvIkUy_PnjhQEKtqvrcNtDmNDhW2cSdAEJR4lRjqi-vnA8zqRAKw340zHQMcJr2ko76396LZarbN8RafT98YchTUBBKbakWc0UcKM07DJyngkoMzOwphNZaUdiBn6PMXDhG6W4oYT0iyKY/s1600/IMG_0599.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvIkUy_PnjhQEKtqvrcNtDmNDhW2cSdAEJR4lRjqi-vnA8zqRAKw340zHQMcJr2ko76396LZarbN8RafT98YchTUBBKbakWc0UcKM07DJyngkoMzOwphNZaUdiBn6PMXDhG6W4oYT0iyKY/s1600/IMG_0599.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Obviously I accepted. It was such a fun process! I really enjoyed the idea of pixelated quilting. I am already overwhelmed with ideas for making more pixelated quilts. Super Mario Brothers, TMNT, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Firefly... and yes, I am a complete sci-fi nerd. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw0yEckhyphenhyphenUnMQlrLNw2Lu3NCIsWrbetPiUVyHswGQwHP7Nw9cZ50hiuf1Tve3Vi4TYdEYhMHHUoO1k54WrTSrLkd_SmSektcY3uunlflI58ztxbTCsFKqNhij3b3u4EvaAhmezX3oXM3mk/s1600/IMG_1009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw0yEckhyphenhyphenUnMQlrLNw2Lu3NCIsWrbetPiUVyHswGQwHP7Nw9cZ50hiuf1Tve3Vi4TYdEYhMHHUoO1k54WrTSrLkd_SmSektcY3uunlflI58ztxbTCsFKqNhij3b3u4EvaAhmezX3oXM3mk/s1600/IMG_1009.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
All finished! I quilted it in straight horizontal lines to keep it loose and soft. I also wanted the quilting to be understated and minimal so it didn't steal any attention from the quilt itself. I'm very pleased with it. I have quite a bit of extra fabric leftover and am actually contemplating making another one. Not soon though. I've got lots of other projects on my list first.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The back. Isn't that bird fabric just gorgeous! I love it. I wish I had a reason to buy some for myself. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I'll leave you with this. All rolled up. I do love rolled quilt photos. I'll be back soon to post about the Halloween quilt I have in the works.</div>

I guess in the flurry of planting seeds, preparing soil and playing in the sunny weather I forgot to journal about most of our spring and summer (summer post coming soon).</div>

And my tulips! I planted tulips for the first time this year and they all bloomed. Unfortunately I enjoyed them so much I forgot to take any pictures of them, save for this poor lonely fellow who hung on by himself for a good long haul. I do love tulips.</div>

And this little boy. Oh my... He has completely stolen my heart. He's such a happy and sweet little guy. Doted on completely by the entire family. He is growing too fast for this mama. Walking and "talking" all day long. I love his sweet little baby babble and his pudgy little feet carefully (and sometimes not so carefully) plodding all over the house.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did manage to do some sewing recently. This cool stack is destined to become 4.5" squares for a king size bed quilt. When we get the house built we plan to have a king sized bed in our master bedroom. It seems to be a favorite place for everyone to congregate in the early morning or late evening for stories, snuggles and the occasional tickle fight. I'm still working out exactly which pattern I want to use for the quilt but I know I'll need 4.5" squares so cutting on these lovely fabrics has begun. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

More later!</div>

<br />I made a whole set (8 or 9 I think) of these mug rugs/oversized coasters one afternoon with a pile of scraps that had been sitting out on my sewing table for too long. It was either that or sort and put away and I'm not a fan of putting fabric away.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />The middle coaster is my favorite so far. I love the center square with the feather and the teal background. Makes me smile. I bound them all in the black polka dot print. To be honest, I had a large amount of it leftover from another project and was feeling lazy so I used it. I'm so glad I did! I love it! I think it frames the rugs perfectly and draws attention to the beautiful fabrics.<br /><br />I do have more of these finished but just didn't get a photo of all of them. And the scraps? It doesn't look like I used any of them. *sigh* I guess I'll have to make a table runner or something. Or a mini quilt for the wall next to my sewing machine. Or a whole bunch more mug rugs. Anything to keep me from the dreaded task of putting fabric away. Besides, it's too pretty to put away.<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />This little sweater (it actually looks much smaller than it is) was a gift for a very dear friend's baby girl. I love knitting for little one's so this was such fun to make. It uses super bulky weight yarn so it knits up so quickly and is wonderfully warm and snuggly (perfect for my Alaskan friends). This was taken before blocking so it wouldn't lay smooth and I'm sorry to say I didn't get any more photos of it.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />The knit blanket was a gift for Nephew. I blocked it out in the sunshine the day before he was born and then quickly packed it up so we could start the 2 hour drive to meet him.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />This photo of it all folded up is a more accurate depiction of the color. It's called "marine" and while I can't remember which brand of yarn it is I know I got it from KnitPicks and it's a worsted weight. The pattern I used was also from KnitPicks. It was a downloadable pattern and I believe it's called "Welcome". It makes the perfect size blanket to snuggle a little baby up in. My sister-in-law says it's her favorite blanket to use for Nephew. That makes me happy.<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />And the gnome hat I knit for my little Wiggles. This was taken a few months ago and man has that kid grown since then, but the hat still fits. I loved making this hat so much that I made a matching one for Nephew (they're only 8 months apart) and several in different colors for baby shower gifts.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />Really though, when you have 2 older brothers who absolutely adore you and shower you with attention and love all day long, how could you not be happy? <br />Another sweater I made for my Alaskan friends little girl. I actually made two of these. The other is just the same except the body is striped with the cream and a hot pink. I managed to not get any photos of the other one. Nuts. I've got to do a better job at taking photos of all the cool stuff I make. I was working with a self-imposed deadline looming over me though so I was distracted. I used organic cotton for the sweater and some sweet metal vintage buttons my mother-in-law gave me a little while back. Worked perfectly for both of these sweaters.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />And speaking of my mother-in-law, this is the mug rug I made for her. She gave me the fish fabric and a few pieces of orange and turquoise and I pulled in the grey and a few of my own scraps to coordinate and fill it out. I have to say this is one of my favorite mug rugs ever. I love the colors and the sweet little fish, Splashy and Spooky, just make me smile.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />I noticed after finishing this that the binding matches up almost perfectly (the orange and blue) and I did not even plan it so score! I finished it up with about 2" of fabric left after binding. Don't think I could have planned that better.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /> Since I had so much fun making the mug rug for my mother-in-law, I dug out my tiny scrappy bits of the same fish fabric and made this one for myself. I just love it! I can't figure out how I want to quilt it yet so he's just hanging out next to my sewing machine for now, keeping me company.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: 'Coming Soon'; line-height: 1.4;">So I was looking over my project list for everything I'd like to finish or complete this year... There's a lot on this list... Most of it is not going to get finished (or started). Having a 10 month old and his two older brothers under foot all day and homeschooling seems to eat into my sewing time a lot.</span><span style="font-family: 'Coming Soon'; line-height: 1.4;"> </span></span></h3>

Here's a close up of the quilting I did on it. A new design to me but I had fun with it. I have to be real though. I completely dislike that you can see the quilting so much on the back. Maybe it's more that you can see the thread color, not so much the quilting. I know I'm being ridiculous about it, but it's just one of those personal quirks. I don't like seeing quilting on the back. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />I made up this taggie blanket for a friend who is having her first girl in a few months. She is emphasizing the princess theme and wouldn't you know it, I had this piece of princess fabric sitting right there. Actually, all three of the fabrics in this were sitting together from a fat quarter stash builder set I'd purchased (don't worry, it was before I started my fabric fast). </div>
<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have been collecting pretty ribbons for some time now and was thrilled to find a use for them. I think I'll be making several more of these little taggie blankets. Not only were they a breeze to whip up but they use a lot of my ribbon! </div>

The back is a soft pink minky. I've had a bolt of this sitting around for a long time - like a few years - so I was pleased to use some more of that up. I hope my friend loves it!</div>

I've separated them all into categories to make it easier to find and account for them. <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, in a few days I will begin a fabric fast for 6 months. Yes, I know… I'm about to go crazy thinking of all the gorgeous lines coming out in a few months that I will not be able to purchase! <i>sigh </i>It will be <strike>good</strike> great for me though. If you could see my stash you would be embarrassed for me. It fills a closet, an armoire, shelves in my bedroom and has begun to take over my garage. I need help. Lots of help. And support. So I have joined together with a group of like-minded people to help me out, give encouragement and keep me from going insane when all those beautiful new fabrics start popping up everywhere. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here's the rules for Fabriholics Anonymous</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
<strong>GOALS:</strong></div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
- To use the Stash I already have! (well I bought it because I liked it right? So… I should use it!)</div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
- Finish UFOs without distraction by shifting to other new beautiful fabric. (I have so, so many UFO's. They must be dealt with and either sold in my shop or gifted to lucky friends and family or I could actually make something for myself for a change).</div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
- Stop the <u>insanity</u> of constantly buying the latest and greatest fabric. (There's no sense buying this beautiful fabric and then letting it collect dust on a shelf. The world deserves to see these fabrics in all their glory).</div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
- Save the $$$ I spend on stashing. (Really, seriously. This is a good enough reason by itself to do this fast. We are saving for our new house and I'm a huge suck on the fundage right now. Just being real!)</div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
- Destash the fabrics that I realize I am never going to use. (I have already begun this actually a few months ago and have given away so much. Still doesn't look like it.)</div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
<strong>FABRIC FAST RULES:</strong></div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
1) No fabric purchases for 6 months beginning January 1, 2014. (I get heart palpitations just reading this!)<em> </em></div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
2) At 6 months reevaluate status and decide whether to keep going for full year. Evaluation July 1, 2014. (I can already say without question I am going to continue this fast the entire year. I just have too much! <b>But</b> … I am going to evaluate what I used/made the most during the first 6 months and decide if I need anything to continue. I'm also allowing myself a few splurges on July 1st for any fabrics I've been completely lusting over these next 6 months.)</div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
3) Create a UFO list and complete them! (God I do not look forward to this list. It will be epic.)</div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
4) Exceptions</div>
<div style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">
<ul style="line-height: 1.4; margin: 0.5em 0px; padding: 0px 2.5em;">
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">Backing: purchasing a backing to finish a quilt top is permissible. However, attempting to use fabric in your possession for a backing is preferable.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">Books and Magazine purchases are allowed as they are not fabric. Notions acceptable too.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">Swap Fabric: if hosting/participating in a swap you are permitted to buy fabric to execute swap duties, but you may not join a swap simply for the sake of being able to buy fabric!</li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">Items for Shop: if you are making an item for a client and need certain fabric to execute it correctly then that is a major exception - who can blame you? But, stash should be consulted first!</li>
</ul>
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Wish me luck! I'm off to buy more fabric! (What? I've got 2 more days!).</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For anyone looking to join this group or follow along with all of us, <a href="http://www.makingrebeccalynne.com/2013/11/fabriholics-anonymous.html" style="color: #888888; text-decoration: none;">here's the link</a>.</span></div>

the boys on the sand dunes. they had so much fun running around on the beach. they and their dad took their RC racing cars and they all had a blast racing their cars around on the beach and sand dunes. it was so much fun and very relaxing. we had some family join us for a bit while we were there. it's always so much fun to have family or friends come visit for awhile. we are going back again next year - at least once - it was so much fun.<br />
<br />
in quilting news, i'm working on a custom quilt for a customer. it's a surprise for her in-laws 50th anniversary and all the blocks are being made by friends and family. i'm going to be piecing the blocks together and quilting and binding it. possibly it was the wrong time of year to take on this project (since it's like, super close to Christmas!) but i really wanted to be a part of such a special event. i mean, 50 years together! that's pretty amazing. i'll have pictures soon. i just started receiving some of the blocks and plan to start sewing them together today. this has to be finished soon so i really can't wait for all the blocks to arrive. i'm going to start sewing short rows together and then if more blocks arrive soon i can easily add them in.<br />
<br />
that's all for now! more soon.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08606372660368061005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780647339315861732.post-22866107620354127842013-09-29T05:00:00.000-07:002013-09-28T18:27:03.235-07:00Scrumptious Table Runner<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
i did get some time at the machine to finish this little beauty yesterday. it's not a color combo that i traditionally go for so it was actually kind of fun to break out of my box for a bit. </div>

Not as much sewing has been happening around these parts lately. We've been too busy enjoying the end of summer and loving on a new baby. A new baby that is almost 3 months old now! I can hardly believe so much time has passed since this little bundle was first placed in my arms. He's such a happy guy. He always has a smile for everyone (though he keeps his best smiles for his favorite people). </div>

With Duplos, legos, wood blocks, stuffed animals, rocks, acorns, old boxes destined for the recycle bin. These kids love to build. I am always finding little "creations" (as we refer to them) around the house. On the floor (and most certainly exactly where you're going to step because why would they be anywhere else?), on counters (right where you just cleaned so you could start making dinner), on the couch (in the very spot that you sit down to nurse the baby every single day, many times a day) and scattered all over their bedroom. <br /><br />I don't mind so much though. They're learning and developing skills and it cleans easily enough. These are the little moments that I cherish. I love seeing their minds at work and their hands busy. I can hardly believe it. It's such a magical age I think, don't you? Seven is when they start to develop who they really are. The skin that was just a little too tight sheds away and this beautiful, magnificent little person is there, just waiting to go out and discover what they're made of. The child disappears - not completely - but too much for this mama to handle just yet. I look at Aiden and see glimpses of who he is becoming, watch him grow in confidence and knowledge, honing the skills already there and discovering new ones along the way and I'm filled with peace. He is an amazing person with such a big heart and playful soul and I'm so proud to be his mama. <br />

<br />
So I finally managed to get some sewing done in between being a mom to 3 young ones. Both the older boys were occupied one afternoon and little Ronan was taking a wonderfully long nap so I decided to sneak over to my sewing machine. I spent the better part of an hour sewing a few of these blocks together with all my gorgeous little 2.5" scraps. I was unsure what to make them into... A quilt would be gorgeous with all this bright happiness, but a table runner could be nice too... then my sister-in-law (who isn't even a quilter) mentioned what a nice pillow cover a block would make. Well duh! Why didn't I think of that?!? So... I think a few pillow covers and maybe a table runner will be in my near future. I'm just loving all this bright scrappiness!<br />

<br />
Just a few other glimpses of what's going on around here. My husband surprised me by bringing this beautiful hydrangea plant home to me. I love these trees and this color was so perfect. We will plant it in a pot for now and transplant it into the ground once we are moved into the new house (which is hopefully going to be built this fall).<br />

A few samplings from the garden one day. Some incredibly sweet little tomatoes, basil, spearmint and apple mint. The tomatoes were gone soon after the photo was taken and the herbs are all drying now - along with many other bundles I've managed to cut, wash and dry.<br />

And how could I not end a post with this sweet face? He is such a joy. So very loved by all of us. Doted on by his big brothers. While I may not be getting much sewing done lately I am enjoying my quiet times with his guy so very much. Sewing and fabric will always be there. Well, we are finally home from the hospital and settling back into life. There won't be much sewing happening around here for awhile. Recovering from a second c-sec is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Besides, my machine is in the shop getting fixed right now. Figured this would be the perfect time for a tune-up since I will be otherwise occupied for a little while.</div>

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. We plan on hanging around home and taking it real easy this weekend.</div>

<br />
This one is for my youngest. He loves blue and brighter colors so I thought this dino print with the bright green polka dot lining would be perfect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_fXqgmnPuKi_auAJtmc6VPBW4tRLbDs8KVLBHUIc_ftbwHZMB8F42XW7cVeCsZIf5nzrhFMoH_K3C83Kj2YneE1cmMOrIpWABgrjhMUBYyC7tuNK5C7-RExAKQZUzqJOOrLnX-upHXYeu/s1600/IMG_8434.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_fXqgmnPuKi_auAJtmc6VPBW4tRLbDs8KVLBHUIc_ftbwHZMB8F42XW7cVeCsZIf5nzrhFMoH_K3C83Kj2YneE1cmMOrIpWABgrjhMUBYyC7tuNK5C7-RExAKQZUzqJOOrLnX-upHXYeu/s400/IMG_8434.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And this one is for my oldest. He really likes red and orange but I couldn't find a print that had red background with dinos on it anywhere in my stash so I settled for this one that had red/orange dinos on it and then found a large enough scrap for the lining in a brick red with dino fossils all over it.<br />
<br />
Instead of making a cord or buying ribbon or drawstring, I decided to use what I had to finish these up quickly and inexpensively. I found some twine from my Moda precuts. I always keep these when I open a precut up and I knew one day they would come in handy. <br />
<br />
I'm sure the boys are going to love them! I actually had a lot of fun making them and am already itching to make some more. I was thinking of making some for myself to hold smaller items and making a few up for birthday gift bags. I love the idea of using a handmade, reusable bag for a gift. It's like getting an extra gift. No waste and a cute little bag to keep for yourself or reuse again.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08606372660368061005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780647339315861732.post-87858671088669054252013-06-19T05:00:00.000-07:002013-06-21T04:12:31.548-07:00A Sweater for Baby<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Just a quick post this morning to show off the sweater I just finished for the new little guy. It's a 6-12 month sweater so it should fit him well for the cold, rainy fall/winter season here. This was the first time I've used this pattern and really enjoyed it. I'll have to update later with the pattern info as I can't seem to find it right now, but it is available on ravelry and I believe was a free pattern.</div>

<br />
Please forgive the poor quality of the photo. It was a rainy and cloudy day so I couldn't get a nice outdoor picture of it today and I really wanted to show it off. <br />
<br />
Enjoy your day!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08606372660368061005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780647339315861732.post-48038724209357398742013-06-10T06:00:00.000-07:002013-06-10T10:03:19.039-07:00New CurtainsYesterday I managed to get these curtains finished and hung. Quite a feat I think, since I'm currently at 36 weeks with this little boy and tired almost every second of the day. The boys helped me get the clips on the rod and hang it up. It was fun to do together and they just loved seeing the curtains once I got them clipped up. <br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Aren't the colors so vibrant? It makes me happy to look at them. And this morning, when I walked out and saw the sun shining in through them, it just made me smile. Funny what a little curtain can do to a mood. </div>

<br />
I just love them. I used Anna Maria Horner voile fabrics from almost all of her collections, cut them into 6" squares and sewed them up into rows of 8 x 9 which seemed to work perfectly for my window. There are two 8 x 9 panels here so the curtains open in the middle. This is very important since I have a dog that will rip the curtains down if they aren't left open when we leave. (He likes to see outside). <br />
<br />
I chose not to line or hem these since once we get the new house built I'll have different sized windows. This way, I can simply take these down when we move and make them into 2 little baby quilts or join them, add some more blocks and make a bed quilt for myself. The latter option is very appealing! And with the soft, lightweight voile fabrics and a crisp cotton backing, I think this would make a wonderful summer quilt on my bed. <br />
<br />
Enjoy your day! I'm off to the doctors for a check-up and another ultrasound. They want to see how big this little guy is getting.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08606372660368061005noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780647339315861732.post-76897134326542310042013-05-23T05:00:00.000-07:002013-06-03T10:29:27.029-07:00A Five Year Old<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Today, my little guy turned 5. While I'm so excited for him it's also a little sad for me. He's growing up so fast. Four just doesn't seem that big, but five? Five sounds big. Five is growing up. <br />
<br />
I heard him get up and pad down the hallway this morning, his blankie and favorite stuffed puppy under his arms, hair all askew from sleep, a little smile on his face. He came over for a snuggle, looked into my eyes and asked, "Am I five yet?" I said yes and he patted my cheek, kissed me and said, "Thanks mom. Thanks for letting me be five now." Then his brother began singing Happy Birthday to him. Talk about a heart-melter.<br />
<br />
We celebrated his birthday the week before since Daddy was going to be gone this week for work so we had a quiet morning together getting ready for their date with Grampa and Baba (my husbands parents) which happens every Thursday while he's away. It gives me a nice break to catch up on whatever - or lately, with baby making me more tired than usual, I can get a nice nap in.<br />
<br />
<br />
I did however get to work on a few sewing projects this week. I'll have pictures coming soon! I haven't made it to the sewing machine very much lately - it's getting hard to sit in front of it for very long! But I do have some things to finish up so I will have some show-and-tell still, at least until this little guy pops out.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And even though I apparently didn't take pictures of the birthday celebration, here's some recents of my little guy.</div>

I had all these little 2.5" squares I had received a while back from Moda and hadn't been inspired yet to make something with them. I was feeling quite energetic one afternoon last week and wanted to make something so I thought what would be better than some mug rugs. <br />

I think these last three are my favorite. The fabric is Whimsy and I used up every last piece I had for these three guys. The binding is from Hunky Dory. I thought it went really well with the soft vintage-like feel of the patchwork squares. I used a piece of cream with a small print on it that was from my larger scraps and was able to use up almost all of that fabric. <br />
<br />
I also managed to get a couple of these done with some tiny scraps I had laying around next to the sewing machine. I just love them!<br />

I hope you've all had a wonderful week and plans for a relaxing weekend. I have a few more baby quilts that need to be quilted and bound. Hopefully I'll get them all quilted today and can bind tomorrow. Even though the weather has been wonderful here, I have no big plans for outside adventures this weekend. After spending the past few days outside with my boys, I ended up getting quite a burn yesterday. A little amazing really. It's only April and I've been sunburned already!<br />
<br />
Even though we've been outside a lot the past week, I still managed to finish up this sweet little pillow cover for the baby's room. I love it! I used only scraps leftover from the quilt I showed in my previous post.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYUNSDacH8-YSK4JnLN-Zp-_XhruKohnZP4mh-MWor5P1Jl6wXrQfYxDsWzxNOHUAbX_WdYWJpr1-WXSDBAgxRXpwNc4GY7Vgf9V0s8iSAzdrrX93xWcbqrS0G8EDAN36o1V3js-oO-h-f/s1600/IMG_8193.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYUNSDacH8-YSK4JnLN-Zp-_XhruKohnZP4mh-MWor5P1Jl6wXrQfYxDsWzxNOHUAbX_WdYWJpr1-WXSDBAgxRXpwNc4GY7Vgf9V0s8iSAzdrrX93xWcbqrS0G8EDAN36o1V3js-oO-h-f/s400/IMG_8193.jpg" width="370" /></a></div>
<br />
I forgot to get a picture of the back so I'll post that later this weekend. It's a wonderfully soft blue flannel with white pin dots. I have one more pillow cover quilted. Just need to put the envelope backing on and I'll have some pictures of that to show you later too.<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend everyone!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08606372660368061005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8780647339315861732.post-35651110907668678742013-04-19T00:00:00.000-07:002013-04-19T00:00:00.289-07:00A Quilt for BabyWell, I finally had enough free time and energy at the same time today and managed to get this quilt top finished up for baby boy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxhzlkG9xfWul4XsBW2ZR3PiK26129dpSguzsL9c1BtiSOQmiqVjk5LuLUp4deWzZ1JKBQvbKQ54cy9EHC-teaKJhNhqT6JXLRNtPVKGSciD4qFdfu8xfZh9FG8_aaKI5hsdWOpTrhh5pN/s1600/IMG_8143.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxhzlkG9xfWul4XsBW2ZR3PiK26129dpSguzsL9c1BtiSOQmiqVjk5LuLUp4deWzZ1JKBQvbKQ54cy9EHC-teaKJhNhqT6JXLRNtPVKGSciD4qFdfu8xfZh9FG8_aaKI5hsdWOpTrhh5pN/s400/IMG_8143.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm very excited. It's not only the first quilt finished for baby but also my first low volume quilt and I just love it! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi80aQf6x9IRJP-yhqnOxAjtUAcnWWMk0BVbCrXCNLaHq5z5e4DJJjIZxNnmc2FadAgTOkj2r8M4E6vKLW9texh06BUyr0_sVAMFMKhjJoCaoRwDVPUDunDZxN6z_vyoyQGqUSuwJ7caPT/s1600/IMG_8148.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi80aQf6x9IRJP-yhqnOxAjtUAcnWWMk0BVbCrXCNLaHq5z5e4DJJjIZxNnmc2FadAgTOkj2r8M4E6vKLW9texh06BUyr0_sVAMFMKhjJoCaoRwDVPUDunDZxN6z_vyoyQGqUSuwJ7caPT/s400/IMG_8148.jpg" width="362" /></a></div>
<br />
I was a little worried when I started these blocks that there wouldn't be enough color for me but I'm very happy with it. <br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I still have quite a lot of strips leftover from this quilt so I'm thinking I'll make up some pillows for the nursery with them. Maybe log cabin blocks? I do love log cabins.</div>

My brother and his wife came up for the weekend to visit. The hubs and my brother went up to our property and cleared some trees where the well will be going. So exciting! This is the first bit of work that has been done to the land so far and we are excited to make some progress (at least as much as we can-which isn't much at this point). <br />
<br />
Aiden wanted to go with the guys. He was very excited to chop up trees and do grown-up work with the guys. <br />

Meanwhile, Aunt Caitlin and I decided to take the little guy to the Zoo that morning. He just loves the zoo and wandering around looking at all the animals. It was a very enjoyable day for everyone I think.<br />

After wandering some of the land for a bit longer we all loaded into our vehicles and met at a local restaurant Kelly's, which is a favorite of ours. It was a fun day for all of us and after being outside walking around and working hard all day, we all slept very well that nite. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After such a good nite's sleep and a very enjoyable weekend, I finally made some headway on these low-volume blocks I'm making for the new little boys quilt. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Please forgive the poor picture quality. It is nearly impossible to get good pictures in my house (the lighting is terrible) and it was pouring buckets of rain this morning so nice sunny outdoor pictures were obviously out of the question. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really love this block. I have seen a few similar versions around blog-land but adjusted this one to my needs. I have so very many strips of fabric in my scrap bins and wanted to use them up so this was the perfect block I thought.</div>

The little houses? How adorable are those right? And the owls. I do love owls. Since the nursery theme is going to be soft spring greens, aqua and navy and bits of grey, white and yellow to compliment I had fun pulling from my scrap bin one morning to find all these beauties. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I still need to make several more blocks before I have enough for the quilt but I felt very accomplished to even have this much done given my lack of energy the past month or so. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Most of the fabrics used were from my scrap bin, some from my stash that I cut into strips and some really great fat quarters I purchased from Westwood Acres. She has some really fantastic low volume fabric bundles that I just love. If you're interested in purchasing some for yourself you can visit Amanda's shop <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/128929358/low-volume-and-text-fabric-bundle-of?ref=shop_home_active&ga_search_query=low%2Bvolume" target="_blank">here</a>. She has a limited availability on her low volume bundles, but if you're interested and can't get one, keep checking back! She is always listing new ones with different fabrics and every one of them has fantastic fabric choices. (I actually just went and purchased my next bundle for fear of them being gone after posting this! There were still a few left).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you do purchase one of these bundles and make something with them, I'd love to see it! I'll post more pics later this week of the rest of the blocks as I finish them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I must apologize that it's been so long since I've been on here. The boys and I have all been sick for almost 5 weeks now and I'm quite honestly exhausted. I've been trying to sew and create but between all the sickies, training our new dog, taking 2 weekend trips (while sick!) and trying to keep up with laundry and dishes ... well, it's a miracle I've been able to keep up on all that frankly. I have recently made it to my sewing machine though and started sewing a little bit, so I will have pictures to share hopefully in a few days. I've got such a long list of things to make for this new little guy that I've got to make some time for sewing!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08606372660368061005noreply@blogger.com0
